Seiko Watch Corporation has appointed Niladri Mazumder as President and Chief Operating Officer (COO) of its Indian subsidiary, Seiko Watch India, with immediate effect. Niladri has been with Seiko India for close to a decade and takes over the reins from Atsushi Kaneko who is moving to take on responsibilities as the Chairman of the European Operations. Mazumder will be the first Indian to hold such a coveted post in the organisation.

Mazumder was a key member of the core Seiko Watch Corporation Team that devised the critical ‘Entry Strategy’ for Seiko’s venture into the very competitive Indian Watch Market. During his tenure at Seiko India, Niladri introduced innovative retail techniques for the  watch and clock category, which have become an example in retailing not only in India, but also for the other countries where Seiko operates.

As Seiko India opens this new chapter, Kaneko had this to say about Niladri. “The Board and I are confident that Niladri is the right person to lead the company forward. He has a proven ability and commands immense knowledge of the industry. His vast experience and leadership qualities will be invaluable as we look to further enhance our positioning within the premium and luxury category”.

Mazumder has spent close to 22 years in the watch and jewellery industry. He has been the recipient of various marketing & horology industry awards. To name a few, he was the first recipient of the coveted Industry ‘Tradepost Marketing Excellence Award’ in 2009. This Prestigious Award Recognises the ‘Best Marketing Professional’ in the Watch Industry in India. In 2012 Mazumder won the most Prestigious ‘Movers Of Time’ Award from the Industry for his invaluable contribution to the field of horology. In 2014 he was awarded the ‘Most Talented Marketing Professional’ Award by the World Marketing Congress.

Mazumdar started his career with Titan Industries, where he spent 12 years taking on various responsibilities in the sales, marketing, retailing and international business spheres of Titan’s Watch and Jewellery division.
