Marine Drive
<Breguet>
Known for its complications watches, the Manufacture launched three marine watches at Baselworld 2013
Breguet, founded in 1775, inventor of the Tourbillon and reference in the field of Haute Horlogerie, has succeeded in preserving the essential values of its founder: namely beauty, elegance and a mastery of ‘Grandes Complications’. The Manufacture continues to innovate and has registered over 100 patents since the brand was taken over by the Swatch Group in 1999. The year 2013 brings in yet more exceptional creations, three of which add to its marine collection. There is something in store for the female clientele of Breguet as well. Check them out:
MARINE TOURBILLON 5839 HIGH JEWELLERY
The Marine 5837 was introduced in 2007 as the first tourbillon watch with a silicon escapement. The use of this highly innovative material for the balance-spring, escapement wheel and lever made it possible to create a tourbillon that was light, and therefore highly shock-resistant, non-magnetic, and one that required no lubricants. The use of titanium for the tourbillon carriage also made the watclighter. The combination of this complication, invented by Abraham-Louis Breguet, with a chronograph function, marked the birth of an exceptional timepiece. Here, it is presented as a High Jewellery version in which Breguet’s watchmaking and jewellery expertise intersect. It has a case measuring 43mm in diameter, fully paved with baguette-cut diamonds. The lugs and the space between, casebands, flat surfaces of the pushpieces, and sides of the crown are all paved. The ultimate expression of this is the bezel, which is set with trapeze-cut diamonds arranged in staggered rows. The entire piece boasts 186 gems totalling about 11.77ct. The silvered solid gold dial is hand engraved on a rose engine in the Breguet tradition, in this case with a ‘wave’ pattern, a motif that also rims the chapter ring. The dial is set with 132 fullcut diamonds, about 0.356ct in all. The buckle, set with 58 diamonds totalling 0.23ct, completes this masterpiece.

MARINE CHRONOGRAPH FOR WOMEN 8827
The brand introduced the 8827 a few years ago, a Marine Chronograph for women. At BaselWorld 2013, Breguet unveiled a new version of this evercontemporary watch. Introduced in a 34.6mm steel case water resistant to 5 bar (50m), this model displays a very feminine dial in white mother-of-pearl. Like its predecessors, it adds to its beauty all the functions of a real chronograph with the hours and minutes in the centre, small seconds and a dates window at 6 o’clock. Pressing the chronograph button sets in motion the central seconds hand, the 30 minutes counter at 3 o’clock and the 12 hours counter at 9 o’clock. This is all made possible by the calibre 550, a selfwinding movement with a power reserve of 45 hours. To meet every desire, two kinds of bracelet are offered with this watch. The first, a turquoise leather strap, is exclusive to the model, while the other is a new metal bracelet designed to fit all the reference 8827 watches.

MARINE TOURBILLON 5837 IN PLATINUM AND NEW SILVERED DIAL
Launched as an 18ct red-gold version in 2007, the Marine 5837 is now being introduced with a 950 platinum case. The matching dial and hands are also of this material, the use of which remains an exception in watchmaking due to the price. Here, the original hands have been replaced by blued-steel Breguet hands. The dial is still solid gold, entirely covered with hand engraving done on a rose engine in the finest Breguet tradition. Only the finish has been changed, to silvered platinum.
