CARTIER ‘TRAVEL WITH STYLE’ CONCOURS D’ELEGANCE 2015
On Saturday, 14th March, New Delhi hosted one of the world’s most prestigious automotive events – The Fourth Cartier Travel with Style Concours d’Elégance 2015.
Cartier ‘Travel with Style’ is among the world’s best four Concours d’Elégance – a one of a kind vintage car exhibition and competition held every two years in India. Curated by the renowned Indian automotive historian and expert, Manvendra Singh of Barwani, the Cartier Concours D’Elégance showcases some of the rarest and best-preserved vintage automobiles from across India.
Renowned vintage auto cognoscenti hailing from automotive, design, finance, racing, entertainment and fashion worlds from across the globe comprise the expert Judging Panel at Cartier Concours d’Elégance each year. The Judges for 2015 Cartier Concours include chief judge HRH Prince Michael of Kent; Chairman of the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elégance Sandra Button, President of Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA)Jean Todt, renowned F1 driver Ricardo Patrese, 15 times World Motor Cycling ChampionGiacomo Agostini, award winning F1 designer Prof. Gordon Murray, supermodelYasmin le Bon, acclaimed English musician Simon Le Bon and leading industrialist The Hon. Sir Michael Kadoorie among other notable personalities.
On 14th March, New Delhi witnessed the opulence and elegance of India’s automotive legacy at a specially curated Cartier Exhibition Space at the picturesque Jaipur Polo Grounds. The growing reputation of Cartier ‘Travel with Style’ as the most definitive celebration of fine automotive design in India has led to a country-wide demand for participation from private collectors. However only a limited number of entries were showcased with an exclusive exhibit of 110 rarest automobiles from the esteemed stables of Indian royal patrons and noted private collectors, handpicked by curator Manvendra Singh of Barwani, who is deeply committed to Cartier’s vision of showcasing the golden age of Indian automobiles. The first day saw an impressive turnout of industrialists including Ratan Tata and Gautam Singhania.
80 classic automobiles competed in 9 distinctive classes at the concours with three exciting new automotive categories – Piccolo Fiats (celebrating the Italian company’s famous small cars) and Coachbuilders to the Maharajas: Vanden Plas (famous Anglo-Belgian coachbuilder Vanden Plas creations for the Indian Maharajas), in addition to the pre-established categories; Pre-War, Post-War, Indian Heritage, Preservation and Roadster classes. 30 iconic classic motorcycles from across the country competed in 3 signature classes – Veteran Vintage, Pre-War and Post-War.

· Coachbuilders to Maharajas: Vanden Plas (Celebrating Anglo-Belgian make – New Class)
· Picolo Fiats (Celebrating the Italian company’s famous small cars – New Class)
· Preservation Class (open to all cars up to and including 1961)
· Pre War Classics (open to all cars build between 1919 to 1945)
· Pre War Classics (Purpose built cars of the Maharajas – exhibit only)
· Post War Classics (open to cars build between 1946 to 1961)
· Post War Classics – Fabuleux Fin (celebrating magnificence of chrome, rockets and wings)
· Roadsters (till 1961- Celebrating Cartier’s “Roadster” brand)
· Indian Heritage Class (1946 to 1960 – celebrating India’s indigenous automotive history)
