Royal Oak Offshore, Rubens Barrichello Chronograph
Since 1993, Brazilian champion Rubens Barrichello has been competing successfully on Formula One race tracks. Ranked five times among the five first in the world championship his track record demonstrates a constant quest for performance and a genuinely daring spirit. These two values are celebrated by the Manufacture AUDEMARS PIGUET in the Royal Oak Offshore Rubens Barrichello Chronograph, featuring a design and a choice of materials inspired by the world of Formula One.
Issued in a limited series of 1,650 pieces in three versions, this timepiece is designed to face up to the most extreme conditions. Its case is crafted in grade 5 titanium, a stainless, light and extremely resistant metal, borrowed from motor sport. In harmony with the spirit of the legendary Royal Oak, the octagonal bezel of this chronograph is adorned with eight screws which resemble engine screws. Also reflecting the Formula One theme, the bezel joint is reminiscent of a ventilated brake disc, the crown looks like a gearing part, while the pushpieces echo the shape of an air extractor. This understatedly elegant chronograph features a dial sporting the “Mega Tapisserie Racing” motif. Partially openworked to reveal the movement, it displays three counters in the colours of the Brazilian flag (at 6, 9 and 12 o’clock) and a date window (at 3 o’clock). The hands and riveted hour-markers are luminescent.
Fitted with an Audemars Piguet folding clasp, the strap of the watch is crafted in “anfibio” leather in a colour matching that of the dial. In a final nod to the world of Formula One, the caseback depicts the wheel of a racing car with a central part bearing the personal logo of Rubens Barrichello.
Prodigious as much for their form as for the inventive subtlety of their Manufacture movement, the watches in the Privée CARTIER Collection borrow the distinctive hallmarks which, from the past to the present day, continue to define the Cartier style. The reflection of a style in which the audacity of forms is all, the yellow gold Tank Asymétrique watch with a silvered guilloché dial is an evocation, and one of the most singular expressions, of the abundant creativity of CARTIER’S watch heritage. The watch’s circular grained crown is set with a facetted sapphire. A contemporary vision of a watch created in 1936, here in a limited edition of 150 individually numbered pieces, the Tank Asymétrique model gently nudges the hours so that the XII and the VI sit diagonally, to be read from corner to corner.
