Classico Amerigo Vespucci with its enamel dial is a spectacular display of design and maritime mastery that has traversed the oceans
Classico Amerigo Vespucci is the latest addition to Ulysse Nardin’s Classico Cloisonné collection. Known for acknowledging magnificent ships of exploration, battle and beauty, Ulysse Nardin celebrates one of Italy’s most esteemed full-rigged frigates in this latest timepiece.
Over the years, the brand has paid tribute to magnificent ships that won fame in great explorations, decisive battles or simply graced the oceans with their natural beauty. Like Santa Maria, the HMS Caesar, the Pride of Baltimore, the HMS Achille and the Frigate Shtandart, that the brand honoured with two cloisonné models, one in pink gold and another one in either white gold or platinum.
In 2013, Ulysse Nardin had launched Pride of Baltimore in its Classico Cloisonné collection, drawing inspiration from the history changing use of Baltimore Clippers during the War of 1812.
Named after the famous 15th century Italian explorer, Amerigo Vespucci, the ship was built in 1930 and launched in 1931. She has voyaged around the globe and is looked upon with pride by those of her mother country, serving today as a training vessel for the Italian Navy. Whether it’s her unmistakable presence or graceful vigour, the Amerigo Vespucci is a force to be admired.
In glorious detail, the Amerigo Vespucci is portrayed. Only achievable through the process of enameling – a lost art harnessed by Ulysse Nardin – this miniature replica appears as authentic as its real-life counterpart. Its luminous colours and three-dimensional effect on the dial add to its essence of realism.
Ulysse Nardin thrives in enameling, a centuries-old meticulous discipline prized by watch collectors worldwide. One of the very few brands mastering this technique in its own workshops, Ulysse Nardin has an unparalleled in-house capability in haute horology. Foregoing the use of modern technology and relying solely on the expertise of the artisan, enameling is an exacting art unlike any other. Ulysse Nardin’s dedication to art is rendered in the Classico Amerigo Vespucci.
Classico Amerigo Vespucci is an exquisite representation of artistic discipline by the hands of masters from enamel-dial specialist, Donzé Cadrans. S.A. Ulysse Nardin’s relationship with the famed enamel-dial manufacture, dates back to the 1980s when Rolf Schnyder purchased Ulysse Nardin; together, unparalleled enameldial timepieces have been produced for more than 25 years. To continue its quest for independence while demonstrating its passion for the art of enameling, Ulysse Nardin acquired Donzé Cadrans in 2012, creating, yet again, another unrivaled in-house capability.
A limited-edition of 30 pieces is crafted in 18ct rose and white gold has a 40mm diameter.
