Corum’s strong association with Bol d’Or Mirabaud continues as it introduces its limited edition Admiral’s Cup Seafender 48 Chrono Bol d’Or Mirabaud watch
Swiss watchmaker Corum has long been attached with the maritime world and in particular, the sport of sailing. For the second consecutive year, Corum has associated its name with the Bol d’Or Mirabaud, the world’s largest closed-water regatta, held in Lake Geneva. For this 73rd edition, Corum has introduced a new model to celebrate this partnership, the 30-piece limited edition Admiral’s Cup Seafender 48 Chrono Bol d’Or Mirabaud.
Corum presented the 73rd edition of the Bol d’Or Mirabuad sailing race in June. The starting gun set off the 477 competing teams. The competing teams that set off on the race with their spinnakers hoisted were a truly magnificent and colourful sight to behold for sailing enthusiasts.
Corum CEO Antoine Calce said, “Watchmaking and sailing sports have in common a number of shared values. Whereas sailors observe any subtle signs of wind in the boat sails, the watchmaker focuses intently on each stage of crafting the watch. Both disciplines require a good deal of attention at all times and a look at the smallest details, along with perseverance and tenacity.”
A name associated with sailing since the 1960s, Courm shares the same passion with all the professional and amateur sailors who take part in this legendary regatta. The Swiss watchmaker is involved on several levels with this international scale race – not only as Presenting Sponsor, but also through bringing together its two ambassadors and by supporting the brand’s Okalys-Corum team. The watch company, as it introduced a model dedicated to the regatta, reinforces its support for the Okalys-Corum team as well as bringing together its two ambassadors. Despite the initial accident, the D35 Okalys-Corum completed the fastest return leg of all the teams and was ultimately placed fourth, just 6 minutes behind the Alinghi – the winner of the Bol d’Or Mirabaud.
Corum’s enduring attachment to the maritime world is naturally expressed through another year featuring a wealth of sailing partnerships. The watch company has signed up to be part of events such as the Bosphorus Cup in Turkey, the RSYC Regatta in Singapore, and the Presenting Sponsor of Bol d’Or Mirabaud in Lake Léman, Switzerland. Each year, the latter attracts over 500 boats, which will be vying with each other to win the golden cup – and the Corum Admiral’s Cup Seafender 48 Chrono Bol d’Or Mirabaud specially created by the brand in honour of this partnership.
At the last stage in Switzerland of the Décision 35 Championship, the Bol d’Or Mirabaud presented by Corum brought together the fleet of catamarans considered as the lake’s Formula 1 craft. Among the 11 multihulls that will cross the starting line, Corum is in particular supporting the Okalys-Corum team, thereby reinforcing its presence this year as exclusive team co-sponsor with the Régie Grange.
A watch from the Admiral’s Cup Seafender 48 Chrono Bol d’Or Mirabaud limited edition, specially created by the brand in honour of the brand’s partnership with the event, was presented to the winner of the Bol d’Or – Alinghi captain, Ernesto Bertarelli – and another to the Bol de Vermeil winner, Syz & Co.
Celebrating the partnership with the event, the watch bears the blue and gold race colours. The Seafender 48 Chrono Bol d’Or Mirabaud features all the iconic Admiral’s Cup characteristics in a bold 12-sided blue PVD titanium case that showcases a black dial with red gold hands and chevrons. A resolutely sleek model powerfully asserting its distinctive design, the watch introduces an unprecedented function into the Corum ‘extreme’ watch range: the chronograph. The chronograph minutes and seconds hands, traditionally appearing on two small dedicated counters, are mounted here on the same axis as the conventional hour and minutes hands. As well as resulting in an original and extremely pared-down face for a chronograph, this approach naturally also ensures enhanced readability.
Water-resistant to 300mts. and topped by a 120-toothed unidirectional rotating bezel, this model which is immediately recognizable thanks to its iconic 12-sided case is made from grade 5 titanium, a material known for its antimagnetic properties.
The dial featuring subtle grey shades is surrounded by an inner bezel ring with the 12 nautical pennants that have contributed to the collection’s reputation. As required by the official norms for diver’s watches, the screw-in case bears the inscription ‘DIVE 300 METERS’ as well as the figure of a diver.
Equipped with the star complication for sports watches, the chronograph function, the Bol d’Or model features a generously sized 48 mm blue case. The model is distinguished by a twelve-sided bezel in the same shade, along with the nautical pennants that are a signature feature of the Admiral’s Cup collection. The dial, richly adorned with a Clous de Paris hobnail motif and applied gold hourmarkers, is enhanced by gold hands. The watch gives subtle pride of place to the blue and golden colours of the Bold’Or Mirabaud presented by Corum.
