Jérôme Lambert, CEO, JLC tells Mitrajit Bhattacharya that the Grande Reverso Ultra Thin Tribute to 1931 will interpret the Art Deco charm of the original in the modern context
Let’s start with Diane Kruger. What does she bring to Jaeger- LeCoultre?
Diane Kruger brings style, refinement and elegance to the brand. She gives a feminine expression to Jaeger- LeCoultre. When you are at Cannes, walking the red carpet wearing a particular dress or watch, you are putting the spotlight on them (the brands). The red carpet picture gets associated with the brand forever.
Has the watch industry finally come out of the downturn? How has your brand taken advantage of the situation?
For the industry as a whole, the turnaround has been quite significant and quick from April 2010. December has been a very good month in America; we saw strong recovery there. Of course, Asia is still booming like ever.
What’s your world market split in terms of sales and where is the growth coming from?
The growth is coming 50 per cent from Asia and the other 50 per cent from the rest of the world. In Asia, we pay attention to keep a good balance because it is very important for the future to develop a global balance approach.
This year has been the story of eighty years of Reverso. How has the watch evolved?
The Reverso is extremely sporty, elegant and inventive. As you are aware, the first Reverso was born in India in response to English polo players’ desire for an unbreakable watch. Over the years it has evolved into one of the most iconic luxury watches ever. This year we are coming out with a new Grande Reverso Ultra Thin Tribute to 1931. The Tribute watch will present the spirit of 1931 in contemporary dimensions and interpret the Art Deco charm of the first Reverso in a modern language.
New customers are being targeted increasingly through social media. Are there any plans for your brand to get active there?
Our website was visited by around 40,000 people per day in the last two days of SIHH. The Facebook page has seen a number of visitors. Specialist blogs and websites featuring Reverso are reporting good traffic. So, for us, the digital dimension is extremely important.
