Three days before the start of the 74th Monaco Formula 1 Grand Prix, one of the oldest and most prestigious street circuit races, one of Europe’s most eagerly awaited charity matches took place at Monaco’s Stade Louis II. Under the High Patronage of HSH Prince Albert II, two prestigious teams, “AS Star Team MC” and “Formula One Drivers” took to the pitch yet again to raise money for another humanitarian cause aimed at helping children in need, through the Monaco Charity Association. “Formula One Drivers” took the lead against “As Star Team MC” winning the game 3:1.

As is customary for this friendly meet, Tuesday evening saw the Stade Louis II packed with celebrities. They came to see the “Formula One Drivers” team, which celebrates its 35th anniversary this year, captained by Fernando Alonso and joined by fellow racing drivers Giancarlo Fisichella and Felipe Massa, take on “AS Star Team MC”, led by captain, HS Prince Albert II, joined by pro footballers William Gallas, Emmanuel Petit and Jan Koller. The match took place under the watchful eye of Michel Pont.

Just like at international matches such as UEFA EURO 2016, the UEFA Champions League, and the UEFA Europa League, or even the FIFA World Cup, the pitchside fourth official boards featured Hublot branding, and the billboards around the pitch also sported the watch brand’s trademark black and white. Furthermore, as the “Official Watch” of the tournament, all the players wore Hublot-branded jerseys. After the awards ceremony, the evening continued with DJ Giancarlo Fisichella at the decks.

The Ferrari driver got all the guests hitting the floor of the A’TREGO club in Port de Cap d’Ai. During the Grand Prix weekend, the Hublot brand will have an unmissable presence across the principality. The celebrated “Official Timekeeper” campaign for Scuderia Ferrari will also feature more than 100 banners throughout Monaco city centre. And, in this UEFA European Championship year, the Swiss watch brand, led by CEO Ricardo Guadalupe, will once again reveal a new, different and unique side, reflecting the characteristics which inspire all of its projects.

The world’s most beautiful classic and vintage yachts return to competition between June 1 and 5 at Les Voiles d’Antibes, the first stage of the 2016 Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge Mediterranean Circuit. Some 75 history-making craft will gather off the pretty Cote d’Azur town as guests of luxury sports watchmaker Officine Panerai which is sponsoring the leading classic sailing circuit for the 12th consecutive year.

The extraordinary fleet taking part in the 21st edition of Les Voiles d’Antibes comprises 75 historically-notable craft from a variety of different nations, not least Italy, France, England, Spain, the US and Germany. Manned by over 500-member strong  crew, the yachts are divided into different classes and categories for racing purposes: Big Boats, Classic Marconi, Vintage Gaff, Vintage Marconi, Spirit of Tradition and Tofinou (the latter being a 9.5-m fibreglass daysailer built along classic lines). In the Big Boats category, the 1928 Bermudan cutter Cambria makes a notable and very welcome return after a two-year restoration in England. The stunning 40-metre is the only surviving member of the International 23-Metre Class and will be attempting to win the Panerai Trophy in her category for the third time after previous triumphs in 2010 and 2013.

There will be centenary celebrations for two craft competing at Antibes also: the Bermudan cutter Rowdy and the gaff cutter Chinook, launched in 1916 by the Herreshoff yard in the US. Both are New York 40s, a one design commissioned by the New York Yacht Club between 1916 and 1926. Rowdy has won the Panerai Trophy in her category in 2008, 2010 and 2011, while Chinook took the honours in 2014.

Officine Panerai is also celebrating an important milestone of its own – the 80th birthday of its Bermudan ketch Eilean. Built by the legendary Fife yard of Scotland in 1936, Eilean was rediscovered at Antigua in 2006 and moved to Italy for a long and meticulous restoration after which she recommenced sailing in the Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge. Eilean is not merely Panerai’s ambassador at the regattas but is also used to promote classic sailing culture as well as playing host to the “Captain for a Day” initiative staged in association with various not-for-profit organisations.

The oldest boat taking part at this year’s edition of Les Voiles d’Antibes is Lulu, an 1897 gaff cutter of around 15 metres that enjoys “national historic interest” status in France. The smallest boat competing is the 7.6-metre Cabrufa, a 1970 Folkboat. Making her racing debut will be Marga, a 1910 International 10-Metre Class. The gaff cutter represented Sweden in the 1912 Stockholm Olympics and was named Best Restoration of the Year by the prestige magazine Classic Boat after she emerged from recently-completed renovations. Other historic craft coming to Antibes include a slew of multiple Trofeo Panerai winners, all primed to unleash their competitive power to spectacular effect: the 1925 Leonore (Vintage Trophy 2012 and 2013), the 1937 Manitou, once President J.F. Kennedy’s “Floating White House” (Vintage Trophy 2015), the 1976 Moro di Venezia I (Classic Trophy 2013 and 2015), and the 1914 35-metre Moonbeam IV (Big Boats Trophy 2011, 2012 and 2015), aboard which Prince Rainier of Monaco and actress Grace Kelly spent their honeymoon.

The four races scheduled between Thursday and Sunday will play out between the Gulf of Antibes and Juan-lesPins. Aside from the extraordinary sight of these Grandes Dames doing battle at sea, there will also be photographic and art exhibitions and live concerts ashore each day. The prize-giving ceremony takes place on the afternoon of Sunday, June 5, in front of the area of the dock where the yachts are moored.

After the success of the 11th edition, the eagerly-awaited Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge returns in 2016. The leading international classic and veteran boat circuit will once again be promoted and sponsored by the Florentine luxury sports watch-maker Officine Panerai in celebration of its inextricable links to the seafaring world. Now a must for all enthusiasts, the Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge brings together many of the world’s most spectacular regatta venues on two separate international circuits, spanning everything from the crystal-clear waters of the Antilles to the stunning sea and landscapes of the Mediterranean. The magnificent classic and veteran yachts it attracts, vie for, amongst other prizes, the exclusive Panerai watches presented to the winners of each stage, which last year numbered Moonbeam IV, Il Moro di Venezia I, Manitou and Siren. The 2016 season will also have amongst its stars, Eilean, Officine Panerai’s own 1936 Bermudan ketch. The prestige William Fife III-penned craft is taking part in the Mediterranean circuit regattas and will also be hosting events for seriously-ill young people in association with various not-for-profit organisations. The Captain for a Day programme, in fact, treats youngsters to an unforgettable day of skippering aboard Eilean, that also allows them experience the healing powers of the sea. The Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge calendar begins in April with the traditional Antigua Classic Yacht Regatta (13 – 19 April), which has been closing the Caribbean sailing season each year since the 1960s with a dazzling gathering of boats at English Harbour.

In June, the racing moves to the back to Europe and the Mediterranean Circuit gets underway on the Cote d’Azur with Les Voiles d’Antibes (1 – 5 June) before continuing in Italy with the Argentario Sailing Week in Tuscany (16 – 19 June). The 2016 calendar also includes Le Vele d’Epoca di Imperia (7 – 11 September), which is held every second year and draws dozens of historic craft to compete off the Ligurian coast. The season wraps up with Les Régates Royales at Cannes between September 20 and 24. Four regattas are scheduled for the North American Circuit, the Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge’s twin circuit across the Pond: the Corinthian Classic Yacht Regatta at Marblehead (12 – 14 August), the Sail Nantucket Regatta, for the first time on the American calendar (19 – 20 August), the Opera House Cup at Nantucket (21 August) and the final round at Newport in the form of the Newport Classic Yacht Regatta (2 – 4 September). The legendary Isle of Wight in Great Britain provides the backdrop to the only non-Mediterranean European regatta: the Panerai British Classic Week at Cowes (16 – 23 July).

Graf and Sanchez were on hand for the ceremony for the opening-round draw for the Longines Future Tennis Aces tournament, which the watchmaker has been organising since 2010. India’s Sarah Dev is among the several contestants participating in the tournament. Ranked India no. 1 player in singles in U-12 category for two consecutive years (2014 and 2015), this year she got the opportunity to participate in ‘Road to Wimbledon’ Masters.  In the tournaments, she was the winner in singles and doubles category of ‘Road to Wimbledon’ National Series held in Hyderabad.   She was singles winner in ‘Road to Wimbledon’ National Series held in Mumbai.  She was Doubles runners-up in ‘Road to Wimbledon’ National Series held in Indore.  She was Doubles runner up in ‘Road to Wimbledon’ National series held in Delhi. She has the honour to be the only girl to get selected by AITA (All India Tennis Association) to represent India for prestigious ‘Longines Future Tennis Aces Tournament’ to be held in Paris in April 2016.

2016 is synonymous with celebrations of many types, as it marks the 10th edition of Roland-Garros since the beginning of the partnership between Longines and the Fédération Française de Tennis (FFT), as well as the 20th anniversary of the final match at Roland-Garros between Arantxa Sanchez and Stefanie Graf, which was won by Graf. To commemorate this occasion, Longines was honoured to showcase the Suzanne Lenglen Cup during the ceremony, and the two former tennis players got a chance to hoist it one more time and reminisce about their many victories on the legendary clay courts of the Paris tournament.

The evening also represented an opportunity for Stefanie Graf to publicly unveil a recently launched Longines watch, the Conquest Roland Garros, which the Ambassador of Elegance had a hand in developing. This timepiece is intended for female athletes who want a watch that epitomizes dynamism and performance, but does not compromise when it comes to elegance, just like the six-time French Open Champion. Created specifically as a tribute to the prestigious Paris clay-court tournament, this timepiece sports an anthracite dial, and has a touch of orange on the hands, the dial or the applied indices, as a subtle reminder of the clay that is emblematic of the courts at Roland-Garros. The back of the watch features an engraving of the event’s logo.

A pink lotus with a dark side bursts into flower as the latest model in URWERK’s 106 series. Within the UR-106 black pink watch turns a shadowy carousel, encased in gleaming black under an arch of jet-black diamonds. Vivid, shocking pink flares like a firework in the night, focusing the mind on the essential — the hourly milestones of time, as they rotate into position to accomplish their 60-minute patrol.

UR106Pink_Side

Like virtually all of URWERK’s models, the UR-106 Pink Lotus is based on the wandering hours principle. Three satellite arms, each bearing four numerals, carry successive hours across a scale of minutes in a dynamic display of the inexorable progress of time. A labyrinthine moon sweeps across the night to complete the picture.

“We paid particular attention to the details of this UR-106 version,” declare its creators, Felix Baumgartner and Martin Frei. “The carousel and satellites have been worked on by hand to create a special satin finish, while our workshops have carefully painted each hour numeral and cut-out minutes scale. The moon shines in a sky of lapis-lazuli blue selected from hundreds of different shades while the outline of the lotus on the back is exactly as Martin drew it. We wanted a sleek, handsome watch for our UR-106 series, and, for us, this is a mission success.”

Heuer Monza Chronograph

In 1976, Jack Heuer, the great grandson of the brand’s founder, designed a chronograph to celebrate Niki Lauda’s first world championship title with Ferrari. The Swiss watch company was then Official Timekeeper for Scuderia (from 1971 to 1979), and it was the first time that MONZA had appeared on the dial of a watch. The 2016 reissue features the watch’s two key functions – the pulsometer and the tachymeter scale, and with the original font. The coussin case is the centrepiece, and is all black, just like the historic model, with black and white lacquered hour and minute hands as on the original. The same applies to the indices in vintage orange SuperLuminova™. The case is made from grade 5 titanium and the material is coated with titanium carbide to give it a powerful, matt black appearance. The 42 mm watch is equipped with a “super racing” strap in full-grain black calfskin with top-stitching, which evokes the design of the three-spoke steering wheel on the racing cars of the time. Inside, the 17 automatic calibre, a chronograph with its two chronograph counters at 3 o’clock and 9 o’clock – perfectly spaced for a beautifully harmonious dial. The screw-on back is numbered and features the historic HEUER logo engraved with red lacquer finish.
